You don’t have to tell me, I already know the morning routine that goes on in your house. Your teenager’s alarm goes off, they lay in bed for 30 minutes until the very last second and they finally jump up, rush through their morning routine, and run out of the house with less than a bite of anything nutritious going into their mouths. Am I right? I may or may not be speaking from experience as a sleep-deprived teenager. Although there’s little you can do about the staying-up-way-past-their-bedtime and the sleeping-in-way-past-their-alarm, there IS something you can do about the skipping-breakfast. As you probably know (or have heard me say), breakfast is crucial for teenage athletes whose bodies are growing, learning, and active, so skipping this meal is not ideal. To solve this morning-dilemma that is all too common, here are a few quick and easy on-the-go breakfast recipes for your busy teenage athlete.
Meal-Prep Breakfast Burrito: these can be made over the weekend and frozen for quick and easy breakfasts the week ahead. The evening before, place the burrito in the fridge. The next morning, throw the burrito in the microwave, hand it off as your athlete is running out of the door and they can enjoy it in the car, on the bus, or in first period. Check out the recipe here.

Protein Overnight Oats: very simple and extremely nutritious, this meal will leave your athlete full through lunch. With one serving of whole grains and one serving of protein, this is an ideal pre-practice/pre-game breakfast for busy athletes. AND it’s easily customizable so even the pickiest of eaters can find a mix they will enjoy. Find out how to make it here.
Oatmeal Cups: another oatmeal recipe that you can tailor to your kids’ taste buds. They only take 40 minutes to make (and 30 of those minutes can be spent knocking off other tasks on your to-do list), and they will provide you with an easy breakfast all week! See how you can make them here.
Chocolate PB Energy Bites: I mean, who wouldn’t want candy for breakfast?! (OK, these aren’t exactly candy, but their flavor could have fooled me!). No bake, simple to make, and even easier to eat in a hurry. Check them out here.
